French GCSE and A Level Student Support

It's Monday morning. You're getting your bag ready for school. You check today's timetable, and...

...'Oh no! French!'

It seemed like such a good idea when you chose that option. But now you're wishing you'd gone for something easier.

You've fallen behind. Maybe just a little, but it's enough to make you feel totally out of touch with what's going on in class.

Perhaps you missed some lessons when you took some time off sick. Or maybe you cut some corners with your homework. (Don't worry, we've all been there!)

Anyhow, now you've started to dread going to class. 'What if the teacher asks me a question?'

And you're scared to put your hand up and ask for help. Because you really don't want everyone to know just how far you've fallen behind.

Does that sound like you?

If so, I've got some great news for you. But first up you've got to understand one thing...

None of this is your fault!

That's just the way things are in school. It's the system. And there's nothing you can do to change that.

It's fine for those that are up to speed. They breeze through their homework and just seem to 'get it' in class.

But if that's not you then week after week you just slip further and further behind.

And every time you see French in your timetable that knot just gets a little tighter.

But there is something you can do about this...

Just imagine for one moment what it will be like:

  • when you can truly say 'This is easy!'
  • when you begin to feel confident in class
  • and when you start to get good grades for your homework
  • Well, all of that is possible. Yes, for you! You just need a little helping hand.

And that's where I step in. Because I understand where you're at. And I don't judge you. I just help you get back on track. And I'll make it easy for you.

We'll work together. Starting at your level. And going at your pace. And before long you'll be right up to speed with the rest of your class.

    It won't feel like school

It'll be more like having a real French friend who can explain things to you in a way that you understand.

We'll meet up once or twice a week, normally at a time when you have some homework to get done.

We can meet face-to-face if we can find a suitable place for us both to get to. My home, or yours, or a public place like a coffee shop.

Or we can do the whole thing over the phone or through the Internet with Skype video calls.

And I can either just help you with your homework or I can prepare some personalised top-up tuition for you to bring you up to speed with the rest of your class.

Of course I'll need to charge for this but if this is something you'd find helpful then hopefully your parents will back you up by covering the cost.

I'm happy to speak with them directly and work out the details. But if they'd like to see for themselves how much I charge, then feel free to show them this...

(You might want to print this out for them so they can check it out in their own time.)

Homework help from just £15 per hour

Rather than having a single standard rate for my service, I offer you some choices that can help you save a great deal of money.

That way you get exactly what you need, and at a price you can afford.

Firstly, let me explain how you can get my very lowest rate. Then you can decide whether you need something a little different...

    Travel

I charge just £15 when I do not need to travel. That means we meet in my home or over the phone or Internet (e.g. Skype video calls)

If you need me to travel, I'm happy to do so, but I'll need to charge for my travelling time and costs.

Typically that would mean about an extra £10 per lesson if I'm travelling within just a few miles of my home in Bognor Regis.

I'm willing to travel further afield to places like Chichester and Littlehampton, but I would then need to charge £20 per lesson extra for travelling. So it may be more affordable for you to come to me.

If you're any further away and you need me to travel to you then just ask and I'll work out a price for you.

    Booster Tuition

I charge just £15 when I do not need to prepare anything in advance. That means I am simply helping you with some homework you have been set.

I am happy, however, to provide some personalised booster tuition to help you get up to speed with the rest of your class.

Typically that would mean that we spend half an hour on your booster tuition and the other half sorting out your homework.

This means that I need to take time preparing something suitable for you in advance and printing off any necessary materials.

So I charge a little more for the lesson. But it's still very affordable at just an extra £3 per lesson, or £18 in total. That's based on a 20% premium to cover my preparation time.

    Refreshments

I charge just £15 when we are not meeting somewhere like a coffee shop.

If you'd like to meet in a library or some other public place that's fine. But when the location is somewhere like a coffee shop then it's only fair that we buy some kind of refreshment in return for using the facilities.

The way I work is to charge an extra £5 per lesson to cover the cost of those refreshments for us both.

Of course if you come to my home, I'll happily provide you with a drink at my own expense.

    Commitment

Then the final factor is how many lessons you prepay for in advance.

I charge just £15 when you book me for a full academic year at a time. That means I reserve time in my diary to meet you once or twice a week for 12 weeks per term over three terms.

So that means you prepay 36 weeks in advance.

Alternatively, if you'd rather just commit to one term at time, then you'll need to pay a slightly higher rate of £20 per hour.

That's because it helps me plan my diary better. So I encourage you to book a whole year at a time by discounting my rate from £20 to £15 per hour.

What that means is that if we're going to meet once a week, you can either:

  • pay for 36 sessions up front and get my best rate of £15.
  • or pay for just 12 sessions at a time at £20 each.
  • Example

If you'd like to chat with me about your needs I can send you an email with a breakdown of your total costs. Here's an example of how that might look for providing homework support and booster tuition in my home for just one term:

Homework Support Rate for paying just one term at a time = £20 per hour

20% premium for providing personalised Booster Tuition = £4 per hour

    12 support sessions of one hour each @ £24 = £288 total
